Phase II – Three Pillars of Growth: Character – Education – Health
Pillar I – CHARACTER
In Cambodian culture proper respect is taught at a very young age. We met this mom and little girl while at the market. Mom is showing her daughter to Som Pas (folding her hands and bowing) to show respect.
We are emphasizing this show of respect with the kids, as they Som Pas the teachers as the enter the class every night.
The Core Leadership Team was eager about starting Leadership training classes
… but I sensed more fired up for DQ Ice Cream after the training session!!!
Pillar II – EDUCATION
An essential aspect of our Phase development at the orphanage is education. English classes and Computer training are in full swing and all the kids are participating. Classes run Monday through Friday from 6-8pm.
The kids are attentive in class and excited about learning and practicing their English
Our dear sister, Sharon Groman, who boldly joined the Mission Team at a spry 67 years old, did an amazing job setting up the library in the open room outside the dining room.
… the kids are already making use of the library. Prayerfully they will keep it up!!!
To keep everyone engaged and informed, Denise created an Activity Board, which hangs on the wall as you enter the Dining Room. It includes the weekly calendar, chores, birthdays for the month, and photos of memorable events in the prior month.
To learn more about managing staff, Denise and I met with a good friend, Adi, who is the GM of a very cool and reputable boutique hotel, The Plantation Resort, to get his advise about staff training, salaries and employment laws for Cambodia.
It is wonderful to see the smiles on the four new children in the orphanage – (L-R) Reaksa (10), Rasmi (14), Leaksmi (7), Mengkun (8).
It was that time of month again: Birthday Celebration Time!!!
After laughing a whole bunch playing a couple of games, including the balloon relay race …
We celebrated the birthdays of Mengkun, who is new to the orphanage, and Teara (both sitting in the middle).
Please pray for us as we pray for you.
Nick and Denise ️
