CSW-MERCY Orphanage Update – October 6th, 2019

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.  – 1 Corinthians 14:33
But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way. – 1 Corinthians 14:40

Greetings from Cambodia, The Kingdom of Wonder.

The kids are back from the Pchum Ben National Holiday and we are back in the swing of things.  We have initiated the next stage of The Three Pillars of Growth and ended out the week with the birthday celebration.

While the kids were back in their provinces for the holiday, Denise and I met with CSW Board Members, General Chhim Chhem and Ney Sakal, to discuss plans the remainder of 2019 and begin strategizing for 2020.

Meeting with CSW Board: Planning the remainder of 2019 and strategizing for 2020.

Main area of attention: the Three Pillars of Growth – Character, Education and Health.

As part of character development, we will focus on creating order to instill discipline in the kids’ lives.

We began by rearranging the kids’ living quarters – boys first. General Chhem was at his best, rallying, directing and instructing the boys.
Step one: remove everything in order to start with a clean slate:
Beds first ..
… Then the closets
… All hands on deck … some were bigger than others
… Then the smaller stuff, sweeping the floors and removing the trash.
Then ..
Once the rooms were cleaned, we put the beds back (the younger kids sleep in bunk beds) in an orderly way, side-by-side, evenly spaced, against the wall.
The same in the older boys rooms. General Chhem directed and inspected each step of the way, ensuring both excellence and order.

… Then put the wardrobes in place. NOTE: We’ll refurbish all the wardrobes, replacing the plywood in the front and back and adding a new coat of paint.
The boys bedrooms are in order, clean and organized.
The shoe racks outside each room are arranged neatly and in order.
The first of many discussions with the kids to ensure they understand and maintain standards of excellence and order.
We also want to instill in the hearts of the children a sense of personal dignity, i.e. self-worth and self-respect. To that end, MERCY purchased new bedding – mattresses, covers and pillows – for each child!  The kids are fired up!
We celebrated September’s birthdays with cake, candles and singing (L to R: Samnang, SeiLeoun, Big Brother Heng, Kolyan, and Bansock (the twin of Samnang)).
To close out the night, Denise led everyone in the Cupid Shuffle!
Much love from Denise and me and all the kids at the CSW-MERCY Orphanage!  ❤🙏
