“Why MERCY? Because there’s a need–a dire need. And we can’t turn a blind eye to that. We believe it’s our duty to help.” Josiah Smith, Director, MERCYworldwide Los Angeles
We are very excited to announce Josiah and Kristin Smith as the new Directors of MERCYworldwide Los Angeles (MERCY LA), responsible for overseeing 12 regions, spanning the greater Los Angeles area, with over 900 ambassadors. The Smiths are a dynamic couple, with the aspiration to utilize their resources in mainstream media to capitalize on its potential to serve the greater Los Angeles community and expand MERCY’s message throughout LA.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Josiah Smith has long aspired to use his talents to help others. As a teenager, Josiah signed with a record label as part of a hip hop group, using music to spread a message of faith and positivity, all the while serving teens and adults with special needs as a Behavioural Mentor in his community. As an AMTC (Actors, Models & Talent for Christ) graduate, and after booking the lead in a Hyundai commercial, Josiah decided to make the leap to Los Angeles, where he was able to book additional acting roles, most notably on Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally. In the past couple of years, Josiah has broadened his platform, serving as Executive Director of numerous community events, including celebrity fashion shows, basketball tournaments and the 2018 Reach Film Festival.
When she was 8 years old, Kristin Smith decided she wanted to be a news anchor. After being bullied as an adolescent, oddly enough, in front of the camera is where Kristin felt most comfortable. Her ambition has taken her far; from anchoring her own shows on NBC, The CW and Fox, Kristin now is the Host of 20th Television’s nationally syndicated news magazine show, “Top 30”. En route to career success, Kristin has served in a number of philanthropic capacities, including Kaity’s Way, as an advocate for healthy teen dating relationships; Big Brothers Big Sisters, as a teen mentor; and as an ambassador for the American Cancer Society and National Kidney Foundation. Additionally, Kristin continues to visit her alma mater, Cal State University Northridge (where she was a scholarship athlete on the basketball team), aiming to inspire young student-athletes to follow their dreams.
The Smiths currently reside in Burbank, California with their two children, Kingston (4 years old) and Phoenix (2 years old). It is with great pleasure that we welcome them to the MERCYworldwide leadership team!
